Children’s Books About Separation – A Must for the Beginning of the School Year!

Separation Books

As teachers of very young children, the first day of school for some students means the first time they’ve ever been away from their mothers.  Finding texts to support children as they process being separated from their parent/s is an essential element of your first couple of weeks in the classroom.  Here are two of School Literacy and Culture’s favorite books on parent/child separation:

  • “Owl Babies” by Martin Wadell
  • “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn

Tell us, what are your favorite beginning-of-year books on separation?

If you are interested in ordering either of these titles, please do so directly from our SLC Amazon site: http://astore.amazon.com/schlitandculr-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=21
